Our story
A restaurant Founded on Passion
How it started
Sankranti was founded by Srinivasa “Nimms” Nimagadda and his wife, Kavitha Nimmagadda.
After a successful entrepreneurial career, Nimms’ passion for Indian cooking inspired him to open a fine-dining Indian restaurant in 2016. But rather than satisfying the itch to share Indian food with others, this experience fueled his passion even more.
The dream
Why not make real Indian cooking fresh, healthy, and affordable for everyone?
So in 2020, Sankranti Indian Kitchen was born to accomplish that dream.
Our Name is a
Celebration
The meaning of “Sankranti” is rich and layered. It’s a Sanskrit word that refers to the movement of the sun and conveys the idea of positive change. In India there are several festivals with “Sankranti” in the name, especially Makar Sankranti and Meha Sankranti. So Sankranti is also closely associated with celebrating together, special foods, and honoring your culture.
To us, Sankranti is about growth,
celebration, and eating great food together.
Meet Ella, Our Mascot
The elephant in Sankranti’s logo reflects the powerful meaning of the elephant in Indian culture, where elephants symbolize virtues like wisdom, strength, and peace.
Ella’s decorations are the shape of star anise and were inspired by the amazing painted elephants that play a role in Indian festivals like Holi.
Lastly, Ella’s smile and playful posture remind us to celebrate each step of the journey!
